The Florida A&M University-Bond Community Health Center COVID-19 testing site at Bragg Stadium is extending its operations through at least May 14, possibly longer.

The site – which opened April 25 - was originally expected to operate through May 8, but the response has prompted the new extension announced Monday.

It could go beyond May 14, if the demand is still clear.

“We are pleased with the response from the community,” said Cynthia Harris, director of the FAMU Public Health Institute and one of the organizers. “Our intent is to continue to provide this service to anyone who needs free access to testing with no physician referral required. We have been able to increase our capacity, so we want people to come and get tested.”

Appointments also were extended to 3 p.m. daily.

The site accepts walk-up traffic and those who have made an appointment by calling the Leon County Health Department at 850-404-6399.

Those with appointments should arrive no more than 15 minutes early.

The site is for those who believe they have COVID-19 symptoms or have been exposed to the virus. Testing is free. No physician referral is required.

Test results should be returned in a minimum of 72 hours. The Leon County Health Department will notify those whose test is positive, while Bond staff will call those whose test is negative.
