Giving Tuesday Now launches May 5 to support communities during coronavirus pandemic
体育在线365Local organizations are encouraging people to donate during Tuesday's "Giving Tuesday Now," a movement aimed at supporting communities during the coronavirus pandemic.
体育在线365The #GivingTuesdayNow campaign asks people to give medical supplies to healthcare workers, support small businesses by purchasing gift cards and donate to non-profits during a time of "unprecedented need."
体育在线365For those who cannot contribute financially, the movement promotes people reaching out to their neighbors, giving to food banks or volunteering their time while observing social distancing measures.
体育在线365Typically falling the week after Thanksgiving, Giving Tuesday launched its Giving Tuesday Now campaign in response to increased community need during COVID-19, according to the website.
Felina Martin, executive director of the Institute for Nonprofit Innovation and Excellence, says there are many ways in which people can donate to local non-profits. The institute is located on West Pensacola Street near the Donald L. Tucker Civic Center.
The Giving Tuesday website advertises 110 local non-profits in Leon County. Martin recommended people research specific organizations that suit their interests and advocated for people to become board members.
"It’s rewarding and it's definitely giving, and it's a great challenge for anyone that is interested in a specific subject matter," she said.
Martin said people can donate in many ways, regardless of financial ability.
体育在线365"(GivingTuesdayNow) can be a great opportunity for the community to celebrate non-profits and just recognize the opportunity of giving in any way that someone possibly can,” Martin said.
